However, as it progresses it gradually evolves into arcs that explore different ideas. Season 1 is just exposition that establishes what the rest of the show is based in with trope-ish drama points. Seasons emphasize the interaction between Christianity and Nordic heathenry. It does a great job showing the internal and spiritual battle that exists between the two realms.
The relationship between characters in this sense is phenomenal and excellently stirs the viewer into understanding what it means to be close with people of different faiths. And seasons don't really have any heavy themes other than the complex relationships among family and makes up for this by dramatic intrigue. I remember watching this and contemplating the clash between paganism and Christianity as I was reading Beowulf in a British Literature class I took at the time; it's a truly historical and spiritual experience that Vikings captures.

But the rest is easily forgetful I do not remember a single scene that moved me or stuck with me. Ragnar was what made this show great. Vikings is brutal and has some very dark and complex moments. Spinoff would have been better for the sons. Ragnar deserved better and Michael Hirst didn't execute.
