You can forgive others because God forgave you Matt. When things are going well, you might not wonder whether God loves you or not. But what if you sin, go your own way, and live your life apart from God? Does God love you no matter what? His love never fails. He never changes. God forgives and loves the unforgivable and the unlovable. God loved you while you were His enemy Rom. He made a way for you to come to Him before you even wanted to.
He loves people who sin. He died for you out of love. God will not force His love on you and He will not force you to love Him back. Turn back to Him. He loves you. He has always loved you, as you can tell from the cross. Christ died for sinners and enemies. Christ died for the ungodly, the broken, the fragile, and the hurting. Confess your sin to Him. Everyone has sinned. Rather than running away from God, you can run straight to Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Jesus once told a story about the Prodigal Son Luke Even when his son took his inheritance money and squandered it all, the father still loved him. The father always loved him. When the son came back with a repentant heart, the father forgave him and gave him the best he had. He wants you to come back to Him. Hebrews explains that Jesus went to the cross because of the joy that was set before him. This means that He went to the cross — remember this is while you were his enemy — He did it out of joy.
You are the prize of His heart. You can stop living for yourself and pursue Jesus from now on. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Stop living for yourself, put aside every weight and sin which hinders you from pursuing God. Turn back to Him like the prodigal son turned back to his father.
God still loves you when you sin. And if you really know that God loves you, you will turn back and not want to sin. In John , the religious leaders brought to Jesus a woman who was caught in adultery.
Jesus shows her mercy and compassion instead of condemning her. It never changes whether you sin or not. Go and sin no more. Live for God. This also applies to the question of whether God loves everyone or not.
He absolutely loves everyone. Because God loves everyone, everyone has a chance to respond to the cross. God does not hold it back from anyone. Everyone can receive forgiveness of sin through faith in Jesus.
Jesus went to people who were rejected and outcast by others. Jesus went to everyone to seek them out. He also went to the cross for everyone. God loves everyone, but His love is displayed in its fullness on the cross.
God loved the world in a very specific way: He gave us His Son John He so loved the world. That means He loved the world in this way. The cross of Jesus is the most extravagant, magnificent display of love, where a sinless God died for His enemies to make them His children. Do you ever find yourself doubting and wondering does God love me?
How could God love us? Because God is love, and loving undeserving sinners like you and me is what he does best. He forgave us all our sins. Our rebellious sins have made us spiritually dead to God. But Jesus is ready and willing to raise us back to life.
Why would he do that? Because in spite of ourselves, God loves us. In spite of ourselves, Jesus loves us. I look at my children, I love my children. I love my grandchildren. But they don't always do things that please me. If I love them, it's because I choose to love them.
If God loves me, it's not because there is in me something innate to my being that God finds acceptable to Him, in fact, just the opposite. Over and over again the Bible says there is none that does anything good, no, not one. There's none who does not sin, no, not one.
All right. If God is love, and I am unlovely, then I can't say that He loves me because of what's in me. I have to say He loves me because of what's in Him.
